Sahanlahti is a prestigious and traditional tourist destination with a magnificent location in Puumala, less than an hour’s drive from Savonlinna, Mikkeli and Imatra. The unique, cultural-historically invaluable sawmill environment on the shore of Lake Saimaa, topped off with facilities equipped with all the modern amenities, creates a fantastic setting for holidays and festivities. The view of Lake Saimaa opening up from the terrace of the Koskivahti restaurant has been described as the most extraordinary landscape in the world – and with good reason, too, as there is nothing quite like it.
One of the oldest sawmills in the Lake Saimaa area, Sahanlahti, was born around the water-powered sawmill that was established in 1765 but has since been demolished. Sawmilling was a feature of the Sahanlahti landscape for almost 200 years.
